With his great performances as of late since the Elimination Chamber last month, it was good to see the WWE place the United States Championship on Santino along with retaining it on SmackDown when the consensus would be that he would shed it back to Jack Swagger.

I hope for a nice reign by Santino with the US Championship in the coming weeks.

As for the matches that involved Drew McIntyre and Ezekiel Jackson on this week’s episode, the WWE could be making use of these two superstars considerably greater than they are presently as both have potential to be main event-caliber superstars.

To be truthful, I’m going to let you the reader comment about the match among Teddy Extended and John Laurinaitis as I just saw it as a time killer for the show and an additional way to extend their rivalry to WrestleMania.

With Evan Bourne out the image following his second suspension, the team of Kofi Kingston and R-Truth could be a solid tag team for the WWE and would make good champions if they take the belts off Primo and Epico.

On March 31, the foremost stable in wrestling history, The 4 Horsemen, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by the trio of Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Dusty Rhodes.

The legendary faction will be represented by Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Barry Windham, J.J. Dillon and their leader, Ric Flair.

While 4 of the 5 men and women will have no restrictions preventing them from appearing at the American Airlines Arena, it seems as if “The Nature Boy” may possibly have a dilemma to wrangle with.

The reason is that, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via 411Mania.com), Flair has not, as of this past week, received clearance from his present employer:

Ric Flair has yet to be granted permission by TNA to attend the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Flair is supposed to be inducted at the event as portion of the 4 Horsemen, his second induction. Flair has stated publicly that he will attend the occasion although and has however to suggest otherwise.

Assuming Flair stays correct to his word and shows up at the ceremony regardless of TNA’s blessing, both he and the WWE could be in deep trouble.

For instance, TNA could pursue litigation against each Flair and the WWE.

(CNN) – To get a sense of just how polarizing a figure new media innovator Andrew Breitbart was, get a load of this tweet from Slate’s Matt Yglesias that went out mere hours after the news of Breitbart’s unexpected death at age 43 broke: “The world outlook is slightly improved with @ AndrewBrietbart dead.”

Breitbart would relish that sort of venomous barb, not least because it meant that liberals with an uncomplicated mainstream media perspective were taking notice of him and his point of view. That such a churlish and distasteful comment reflects poorly on its author, an establishment blogger with impeccable left of center bona fides, and his Washington Post-owned platform, would simply be icing on the cake.

As the creator of the controversial suite of “Big” sites (including Big Government , Big Journalism , Big Hollywood , and Big Peace ), the man who helped put the nonprofit ACORN in the crosshairs of angry lawmakers who ultimately defunded the organization, and the reason former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner’s crotch shot went viral, Breitbart didn’t simply risk the ire of indignant liberals. He insisted on it, even as he was no straight-up social conservative: At the 2011 Conservative Political Action Conference, he protested the banning of the gay-friendly group GOProud by hosting a dance party featuring lesbian singer Sophie B. Hawkins. (Full disclosure: I have blogged in the past for Big Hollywood and Reason.tv posts some of our videos at Big Government.)

Anyone who tries to reduce his importance to that of a fire-breathing, ax-wielding right-wing hatchet man – a sort of Sean Hannity Jr. – Is going to miss entirely his enduring legacy to the current and future mediascape.

For years, his job was to be “Matt Drudge’s bitch” (his term, which he used in a 2007 Reason interview), to prowl the Web for links both banal and profound and edit the site that more than any other showed how the Internet could be used to route around information bottlenecks imposed by official spokesmen and legacy news outlets.

From Drudge, he went on to help launch the Huffington Post of all things, named for the foreign- born, heavily accented woman who once campaigned for California’s ugly, anti-immigrant Proposition 187 before embracing the gospel according to Howard Zinn, Van Jones, and Bill Maher. Widely misunderstood in its embryonic phase as the worst sort of vanity project – Arianna Huffington’s celebrity friends lecture the world about livable wages while dropping green-energy manifestos from their private jets – the Huffington Post is in fact a marvel of open-sourced news gathering and content creation.

Though Huffington would later challenge some of Breitbart’s claims about how much of her site sprung fully formed from his brow, she never stinted on the fact that he was intensely interested in creating a new way of conversing about everything that matters to people: “He was extremely interested in how to have a conversation online – how to bring together all these interesting voices,” Huffington told Wired’s Noah Shachtman . “Now it’s, like, so obvious. But at the time, it had never been done.”

He pulled off the same stunt with his increasingly influential “Big” sites – and in a way that was more suited to his ideological leanings, which tilted not so much toward the right as they did against what he saw as inescapable and underappreciated bias and smugness in the mainstream media. As my colleague Matt Welch, a longtime friend of Breitbart, writes,” He didn’t actually have strong philosophical / policy beliefs – at all – and he was always perfectly comfortable and perfectly welcome in ideologically and culturally diverse settings. “

From the dozen or so occasions in which I interacted with him, I can attest to the truth of that statement. He had opinions as big as all outdoors and loved to argue about everything – and on nothing more than the innate superiority of the National League to the American League in baseball (on this, as on many other topics, he was surely wrong). But the point is that he loved to argue, not to surround himself with people who thought exactly like him.

His legacy has nothing to do with whether the Republican party picked up Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat or whether ACORN has been able to renew its funding. It has to do with the ways in which he created new places and spaces to talk about whatever any of us want to talk about. He told Reason in 2004 that after feeling ignored by existing outlets, “We decided to go out and create our media.”

It doesn’t matter who we is, kemo sabe. It’s the conservatives at Drudge, the liberals at HuffPo, the leftists at DailyKos, the libertarians at Reason. It’s all of us and Breitbart helped create and grow a series of do-it-yourself demonstration projects through which we can all speak more loudly and more fully.

Breitbart is dead, but the conversation pits he built will live on for a long, long time. A lot of people theorize about democratizing the public square and bringing new voices and sources into conversations about politics and culture. Breitbart actually did it. It wasn’t always perfect and it wasn’t always pretty (ask Shirley Sherrod, the former Department of Agriculture official who sued him for defamation), but he blazed a path that surely leads to a far richer and more interesting mediascape than the one we all grew up with.

Syria conflict continues to escalate

(CNN) – The fate of the center of resistance in the besieged city of Homs was unclear early Thursday amid what the opposition described as a communications blackout following a full-scale assault a day earlier by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

Spotty reports of intense fighting emerged in and around the hard-hit Baba Amr neighborhood, though it remained unclear whether Syrian forces had taken back the area that has become a flashpoint for both sides in the nearly yearlong uprising.

Al-Assad’s government said late Wednesday that troops had taken control of the area, while an opposition group said there were conflicting reports about whether troops gained control of a portion of the neighborhood amid reports of continued fighting.

Two opposition activists on the ground in Homs have said the army did not take Baba Amr, while another activist reports troops had taken control of a portion of the neighborhood, according to Avaaz, a pro-opposition, political activist group.

“Accurate and detailed information is extremely limited at this time,” Avaaz said in a statement.

The Revolutionary Council of Homs said there was “no news from Baba Amr” following reports that shelling by Syrian forces targeted satellite Internet devices, preventing the opposition and activists from uploading video accounts on YouTube.

The opposition in Homs also reported a signal interference that made it impossible to use satellite telephones to get word out.

“This has made it extremely difficult to receive information from inside and piece together a detailed picture of what is happening in Baba Amr. At this time, death tolls are extremely hard to compile,” Avaaz said.

CNN cannot independently confirm casualty reports by the opposition, activists or the Syrian government because access to the country by international journalists has been severely restricted.

Opposition activists say more than 9,000 people have died in the nearly yearlong government attempt to quell the opposition, which has been calling for an end to al-Assad’s regime.

The United Nations put the number at “well over 7,500″ since the violence began last March, while the Syrian government claims more than 2,000 security personnel have been killed.

Al-Assad has denied reports his forces have targeted civilians, saying the government is fighting “armed terrorist gangs” and foreign fighters bent on destabilizing Syria.

But evidence to the contrary appears to have been documented in videos by the opposition and citizen journalists, who have posted their work on social media websites and YouTube.

The reports of the assault on Baba Amr drew international condemnation, while opposition and rights groups slammed world leaders for failing to intervene in what they described as a slaughter.

British Foreign Minister William Hague said he was “appalled” at the reports of an all-out assault on Baba Amr.

“I call on those Syrians who are being ordered to attack their fellow citizens to make a choice and to lay down their arms. Those who do not do so will be held to account for their actions,” Hague said in comments posted on the Foreign Office website.

“Britain will continue to do all it can to bring the greatest possible pressure to bear on the Assad regime until it ceases the violence and repression which is doomed to fail. We will work with the Arab league to ensure a Syrian-led political transition that brings an end to this terrible crisis, “Hague said.

But for the opposition and rights groups, Hague’s pledge was too little, possibly too late.

“Right now, Assad’s forces are intent on totally flattening Baba Amr, Homs. The international community, shamefully, is silent,” said Alice Jay, campaigns director for Avaaz.

“The world’s leaders must act now, or live with the knowledge that they abandoned the Syrian people as they were being massacred.”

Intense fighting also was reported in other Sunni-dominated neighborhoods in Homs, including claims that Syrian forces shelled the neighborhood of Bab Tadmur before storming it and targeting at least one family, according to the Revolutionary Council of Homs.

Meanwhile, fresh diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis are under way.

“I think the message is clear: that the killing and the violence must stop,” Kofi Annan, the joint special envoy on Syria, told reporters Wednesday before departing for the Middle East.

Annan, who served as U.N. secretary-general from 1997 to 2006, said he was departing for the region “to talk to all concerned.”

He did not specify with whom he would meet or when the meetings would take place.

“As you can imagine,” he said, “in this type of situation, every move is sensitive and highly political, even the itinerary. But we are working it out, and I would expect to get to Syria fairly soon. “

But it is unclear what if anything will bring al-Assad to the negotiating table to end the violence.

The United States, the European Union, the Arab League and Turkey have initiated a range of sanctions against Syria over the crackdown.

But international action against the Syrian regime has been blunted by Russia and China, both of them major trade partners with Syria. They have vetoed U.N. Security Council resolutions condemning the Syrian regime.

The beginning of 2012 has not been a very good year for Randy Orton, as the former multiple-time WWE Champion has been bitten by the injury bug in the 1st two months of the year.

In a match with the Huge Show the Monday ahead of the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Orton suffered a concussion immediately after a botched RKO attempt resulting in becoming pulled from the SmackDown Chamber match for replacement Santino Marella.

WWE is marketing Randy Orton for tonight’s WWE Raw SuperShow from Portland, Oregon. Orton suffered a concussion during a match with Huge Show a couple of weeks back and is due to be re-evaluated to see if he is in a position to return to the ring. 

Whilst it is great to see him back in the ring, the WWE has a bit of a difficulty with Orton, as the card for WrestleMania is starting to fill up with great matches and none for the Viper.

In regards to WrestleMania, Orton is somewhat drifting without a possible match for the huge show in Miami as Sheamus is facing off with World Champion Daniel Bryan and former rival Wade Barrett is out with a dislocated elbow.

I would like to see Orton be a participant in the Money in the Bank Ladder match on April 1st and make the match a need to-see on 1 of the most stacked cards in years for WrestleMania.

So, Bleachers, what do you assume the WWE is going to do with Randy Orton as he makes his return to the ring tonight on Raw SuperShow?

Because his return to the WWE, Chris Jericho has not been shy when it comes to showing his correct heel character.  But this past weekend, Jericho took his superb skills on getting the fans to hate him to a new level.

According to wrestlinginc.com, at a live RAW Home Show in Los Angeles, Jericho spoke some Spanish, which enraged the fans to the point where toilet paper was thrown into the ring.  Jericho then incorporated the toilet paper into the promo and enraged the crowd further.

Jericho then posted on his official Twitter account the following: “Let me be clear on this. I do not wanna see any far more toilet paper thrown at me in the ring once more! It’s disrespectful!!”

Jericho has always had excellent achievement in acquiring the fans to hate him to the point where they want to lynch him.  When Jericho was employed with Planet Championship Wrestling early in his profession, he was involved in a program with masked superstar Juventud Guerrera.  Jericho was the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, but he ducked Guerrera due to the fact he didn’t want to give him a title shot.

Jericho finally put up the title against Guerrera’s Mask, and he cut scathing promos on Guerrera’s Latin heritage.  When Guerrera lost, he was forced to give up his mask. Jericho then mocked him by wearing the mask and carrying it to the ring as a trophy.

With this most recent incident, Jericho is naturally trying to draw more heat from the fans in preparation for his match against CM Punk at WrestleMania and to propel Punk as a massive babyface. This match will be one of the highlights, and it will undoubtedly be a wonderful technical match.
